📊 Portfolio Matrix: Visualizing Evaluation Results

How to read evaluation results in the 2D Portfolio Matrix

The Portfolio Matrix visualizes evaluation results for all use cases as a 2D chart. It enables direct comparison and helps moderators and admins identify priorities at a glance. This article explains how the matrix is structured and how to use it.

This article is for Moderators and Admins.

📋 Table of Contents

📐 1. Portfolio Matrix Structure

Access the Portfolio Matrix via đŸ—‚ī¸ Portfolio Management → Portfolio Matrix in the left navigation.

X-axis and Y-axis
The two axes correspond to the two evaluation dimensions configured in the Workspace Settings — e.g. "Ease of Implementation" (X) and "Business Value" (Y). Axis labels are taken from the dimension configuration.

Dots (Use Cases)
Each use case with a completed evaluation session appears as a dot in the matrix. Its position is determined by the aggregated dimension scores of the most recently closed session.

Dot size
The size of a dot can optionally represent a third metric — e.g. the number of evaluations or another scoring attribute.

â„šī¸ Use cases without a completed evaluation session do not appear in the matrix. Make sure evaluations are closed for use cases to become visible.

🔍 2. Reading & Interpreting the Matrix

The matrix is divided into four quadrants based on the combination of both axis values:

Top right – High priority
Use cases with high business value and high feasibility. These should be prioritized for further development.

Top left – Strategic investments
High business value but challenging implementation. Worth pursuing, but resource-intensive.

Bottom right – Quick wins
Easy to implement but lower strategic value. Good for fast results.

Bottom left – Low priority
Low feasibility and low value. Candidates for archiving or deprioritization.

💡 Hover over a dot to see the use case title and detailed scores. Click to open the use case Summary.

🏆 3. Top-5 List

Alongside the matrix, a Top-5 list of the highest-scoring use cases is displayed automatically. The ranking is based on the combined score across both dimensions.

The Top-5 list is especially useful for:

  • Quickly identifying the most promising use cases
  • Preparing prioritization discussions
  • Reporting to stakeholders without detailed matrix analysis

đŸŽ›ī¸ 4. Filtering

The matrix can be narrowed using the filter button in the top right:

Maturity Level – Show only use cases at a specific maturity level

Department – Focus the matrix on a specific organisation unit

Time period – Show only use cases whose latest evaluation was completed within a specific date range

💡 Use the department filter to prepare the matrix for a steering conversation with a business unit — so you only see the use cases relevant to that area.

📤 5. Export as PowerPoint

The Portfolio Matrix can be exported directly as a PowerPoint slide — ideal for presentations and steering meetings.

  1. Set the desired filters.
  2. Click Export in the top right.
  3. Select PowerPoint as the format.
  4. The file is downloaded and contains the matrix visualization including the Top-5 list as a ready-to-use slide.
