π― 1. What is a Strategic Initiative?
A Strategic Initiative represents a company-level goal, program, or product that groups related use cases under a shared direction β for example "Operational Efficiency 2025", "Customer Experience Transformation", or "Product X".
Each use case can be linked to one Strategic Initiative. One Strategic Initiative can be linked to multiple use cases.
Strategic Initiatives are accessible directly from the use case sidebar β there is no separate list view.
β 2. Creating a Strategic Initiative
You can create a Strategic Initiative in two ways:
Option A β from the Use Case Sidebar
Open any use case β navigate to the Summary tab β click Link or Create in the Strategic Initiative section.
Option B β while linking
When searching for an existing initiative to link, you can create a new one on the fly if no suitable initiative exists yet.
In both cases, a creation form opens with the following fields:
- Title (required)
- Owner (required)
- Status (required, default: Active)
- Priority (default: Medium)
- Strategic Goal (optional)
π΅ Note: Budget, dates, and Business Domain can be added after creation via the detail sidebar.
π 3. Linking a Use Case to a Strategic Initiative
- Open the use case and go to the Summary tab.
- In the Strategic Initiative section, click Link or Create.
- Search for an existing initiative by title.
- Select it β the use case is linked immediately.
π΅ Note: A use case can only be linked to one Strategic Initiative at a time. Linking a new initiative replaces the existing link.
ποΈ 4. Viewing and Editing a Strategic Initiative
Click on the linked initiative title in the use case sidebar to open the Strategic Initiative detail sidebar.
The sidebar contains the following fields, all editable inline:
- Title
- Owner
- Status
- Priority
- Description
- Business Domain
- Start & End Date
- Budget & Costs
- Linked Use Cases (read-only list: maturity level, title, contact person)
How inline editing works:
- Hover over a field to reveal the editable state
- Click to activate the input
- Confirm with Enter or the checkmark icon, cancel with the X icon
- Changes are saved immediately after confirmation
π‘ Tip: Only the initiative owner and Moderators/Admins can edit fields. All other users see the sidebar in read-only mode.
ποΈ 5. Removing or Deleting a Strategic Initiative
Two distinct actions are available via the options menu (β―) in the sidebar header:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Remove | Unlinks the initiative from this use case. The initiative itself is preserved. |
| Delete | Permanently deletes the initiative and removes it from all linked use cases. |
π΄ Warning: Deleting a Strategic Initiative cannot be undone. All use case links are removed permanently.
